Navigation Training
Map and Compass: Walk your own way
Refresher (basic map and compass)

This is a full day refresher to basic map reading and compass skills. This walk is for those whose navigation skills are a bit rusty and who would like to polish up their compass work. We will start from the very beginning but by the end we aim for you to regain your confidence in using a map and compass to navigate your way using rights of way across straight forward terrain, such as moorland footpaths and bridleways. During this full day walk session we will cover:

-
Relating what is on the map to what you can see on the ground

Understanding scale and measuring distance on a map
-
Common map symbols including footpaths, tracks, lanes, roads, bridleways, walls, different types of vegetation, streams...

-
Using a variety of obvious features as handrails to navigate
-
