We are both qualified Hill and Moorland Leaders, (previously the Walking Group Leader award), members of the Mountain Training Association, First Aiders, fully insured and fully qualified Trainers (7307 City and Guilds). A bit about Jak

Loving living and working in the South Pennines

I qualified as a Walking Group Leader (now called Hill and Moorland Leader) in 2011. I like walking in the Calderdale hills including leading walks for the Walk and Ride Festival.

I've later gained the Mountain Leader award and love the mountains. We are very lucky in this area to have access to so many gorgeous mountain areas within a relatively short distance. And of course the South Pennines whilst maybe not quite as mountainous, are still excellent hills for honing your skills.

My first long distance walk was the central part of Hadrian's Wall Path. I've walked the southern half of the Offa's Dyke Path, such a great way to see our beautiful countryside. I write about my trips and adventures in a blog - JaksTrips which you are welcome to view.

I’m passionate about sharing my skills and so helping people to be safe on the hills in all our amazing weathers.

and who is Cath?

Born in Yorkshire, adopted by Manchester

I qualified as a Walking Group Leader (now called Hill and Moorland Leader) in 2011 and since then have led walks for HF Holidays, as an individual and with Jak as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival. I love the Lakes, the Howgills, North Wales and of course the Peaks and the South Pennines. Long distance walking is my great passion (when I have the time!) and I have completed the Pennine Way, Wainwright's Coast to Coast, Hadrian’s Wall and most recently the Dales Way.

I walk a lot in the South Pennines. It is so accessible and easy to get to by train or car yet it can feel wild and remote. It is the ideal landscape to learn and practise navigation. I have written my first book ‘Navigate your way around … the South Pennines’ published by Sigma Press
